COURT FINDS ONE GUILTY IN MZIMBA

In 2013, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that Mr. Sackson Kanamazina, a patrol man working with the Forestry Department at Jenda Road Block solicited K20, 000.00 but received K4, 000.00 from Mrs. Selina Mwale in order for him to allow Selina Mwale use the firewood which he had found at Mwale’s house without a receipt.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau instituted investigations into the matter which established that the allegation was true.

In 2014, the Bureau took Kanamazina to Mzimba Magistrate’s Court. He was charged with corrupt practices by public officer and misuse of public office contrary to Section 24 (1) and 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act respectively.

On 27th January, 2016, Mzimba Magistrate’s Court found Sackson Kanamazina guilty and convicted him. He was sentenced to twelve (12) and twenty four (24) months imprisonment with hard labour. The Court suspended the sentences for twenty four months on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
