On the 19th of December, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) received a complaint
alleging that a clinical officer at Bwaila Hospital was soliciting payment in order for her to
attend to an expectant woman who had gone to the hospital for medical attention after
complaining of labour pains.
In a joint operation with the Malawi Police Service, the ACB arrested the clinical officer, Olipa
Mtsuko, in Lilongwe after it was established that the clinical officer had indeed demanded
and received the sum of K30,000.00 from the expectant woman.
Olipa Mtsuko will be taken to Court where she will be informed about the charges after the
ACB has interviewed her under caution. The ACB is warning all public officers against
soliciting or receiving payment for services which are supposed to be offered for free.
